Directions:

Ok! Let’s get making. If you are making fabric bunting, you will want to start by making that before adding the embroidery. I’m just going to dive into embroidery since I purchased pre-made burlap bunting.

To prep for the project, download the font you want to use. I used two different ones. A font for the “Let it Snow” and another for the felt applique. I transferred the letters I needed from each font to my machine with a USB stick. My letters are each 3.5”.

Hoop the bunting by placing sticky stabilizer in the hoop, then place the bunting on it. I sewed the first few letters with the bunting going the long way, but then I realized I could place them the short way and get more out of each sheet of the stabilizer. Of course, this also depends on your hoop size. I’m using a 5x7” hoop for my project.

Also, for the embroidered letters on the burlap, I used a second layer of stabilizer on the top to make sure the letters stood out nicely from the textured fabric. If you are using smooth fabric for bunting, you probably won’t need the top stabilizer.

Place the hoop in the machine and set the letter you want to sew. Hold or pin the water-soluble stabilizer in place until the stitches hold it in place.

Let the designs stitch out and then remove the hoop from your machine. I pulled the stabilizer off the front first, if it doesn’t come easily, use water to dissolve. Then pull the whole thing off the sticky stabilizer.

Repeat the same process for every letter you want to stitch. Separate words with a blank bunting piece or design like the snowflakes here. I cut the flakes on my ScanNCut.

For the second option of embroidered bunting, make one with applique letters. I used felt, but there are so many options that would look fabulous on a bunting like this. The process is pretty much the same, but makes sure you have an applique font, or any font that is an outline. There are built-in applique fonts on my machine, but the letters weren’t big enough for what I was wanting on this project.

For the applique, cut the felt, cork or faux leather to rectangles the size of your letters {or slightly bigger}

My applique letters stitched out an outline first, so I let that stitch, then placed the felt on once I could see exactly where to place it.

Place the felt on the bunting and hold it in place until the stitches hold it still.

Many applique designs will stitch an outline again, this is great for holding the felt in place. Then the design begins with the satin stitch to finish.

Remove each letter as it finishes, then use small, sharp scissors to clip the excess felt.

Again, repeat with each letter you need for your bunting word{s} When you finish, hang and enjoy!!
