Reversible Quilted & Appliquéd Block
There are times where I've wanted to add an Appliqué to a project, but I've known it would be seen from both sides, so it also had to look good from the back. Here's how! It works with shapes that can be mirrored, so letters aren't the perfect candidate. Here I've used a Bunny on a pair of quilted blocks that I bound and turned into a place mat.
I start with a quilted block that used the 9 ½” x 14” Hoop on THE Dream Machine®.
I then used the camera scan function to scan the quilted block and loaded the Bunny appliqué design.
Move the Bunny appliqué design on the screen to the desired placement on the Quilted Block using the scanned image as guidance.
Stitch out all parts of Bunny Appliqué EXCEPT the cover stitch.
Remove the hoop from the embroidery unit and turn it over. Place a piece of fabric on top of the Bunny outline, securing using embroidery tape.
Return hoop to embroidery unit and select the color change step that is the Tack Down Stitch. Initiate the Tack Down Stitch to secure the fabric that is on the backside of the quilted block. Remove hoop from embroidery unit, turn it over and TRIM the excess fabric.
Replace the white embroidery bobbin thread with a bobbin that matches the top thread. Return the hoop to the embroidery unit and select the color change step that is the Cover Stitch. Initiate the Cover Stitch to finish the edges of the appliqué. The finished design is pretty on the front and back of the Quilted Block.
