How to Sew a Snuggle Bunny
Snuggle Bunny blankets are a hit for little ones. My babies all had one and they’d carry them everywhere. Sew these for the little loved ones in your life. They make adorable baby gifts and are easy to make. You can create this cuddle comforter in all types of fabrics. I prefer fleece, cotton gauze/muslin, knit, cuddle fabric, Sherpa...Anything soft really. Add some custom embroidery with the baby’s name for additional details. Supplies:
- Brother SE2000 Sewing Machine (Opens in a new tab)
- 1/2-yard fabric (see above for material types)
- Pattern
- Stuffing
Step 1
Cut the pattern pieces out.
Step 2 Sew
Place ears and front piece sides facing. Stitch as shown in the diagram.
Step 3
Clip the curved edges of the ears and flip the right sides out. Press a pleat in the center.
Step 4
Front piece: press the seam allowance open.
Step 5 Sew
Flip face up and mark points for the eyes and nose.
Use the heart decorative stitch over the marks to create eyes/nose. Tip: use tissue paper or embroidery tear-away stabilizer on the back to add additional support to the fabric/stitching.
Step 6
Place ears about ½ apart right sides facing. Stitch into place (1/4” seam allowance).
Place the back piece right over the front, sandwiching the ears between the layers. You will have to fold the ears up.
Step 7
Stitch all the way around leaving a 1 – 1.5” opening along the bottom center.
Step 8
Flip right side out and add stuffing (I stuffed it about half full so there wasn’t a ton of bulk.
Step 9/9b
Take the blanket piece and place the right sides together. Stitch ¼ seam allowance all the way around leaving a 3” opening on the center top and center bottom.
Add the bunny head in the center top right sides facing and finish off the top opening sewing all layers together (may want to sew another stitch across to secure everything).
Step 10
Pull the right sides out through the bottom opening.
Step 11
Press and topstitch all the way around the edge securing the bottom opening.
Step 12
Add an applique front piece if you want more details or embroidery.
